British High Commission donates equipment to Ghana Cricket Association 

The British High Commission has donated over 20 boxes of equipment to the Ghana Cricket Association (GCA) to aid in developing the sport.  

The equipment, made up of helmets, bat, leg guards, clothes, ball, among others would aid in championing both grassroots and competitive cricket. 

The gesture, among other benefits would give young players the needed tools to develop their skills, build confidence, and take the sport to new heights.

Mr. Ryan Wilson, Head of Communications at the British High Commission, in an interview with GNA sport expressed excitement with the growth of cricket, calling the support a game-changer for Ghana’s rising talent. 

He noted that the donation reflected the British High Commission’s commitment to sports development, particularly promoting cricket among schools. 

He added that discussions were already underway with the Ghana Cricket Association to explore new opportunities in the developmental plan. 

Mr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, President of Ghana Cricket Association said “This has been a longstanding negotiation between Ghana Cricket and the British High Commission. We are happy that this dream has finically come into reality.”  

He expressed heartfelt appreciation to the British High Commission, pledging that the equipment would be put to full use and serve its purpose.

Mr. Phil de Burgh, First Secretary at the British High Commission, said he was thrilled to see schools like Achimota and others putting cricket at the heart of their sporting programs 

GCA had over the years been promoting cricket at the various senior high and junior high level, a gesture that needs more assistance to sustain.
