Currently, Ghana is having a hard time in its attempt to repatriate Burkinabes and Guineans who tested positive for coronavirus in Ghana.

10 foreign nationals from the two countries entered Ghana illegally and later tested positive for the virus in Tamale, the Northern Region capital.

According to Northern Region Minister, Salifu Saeed, Guinea is reluctant to receive eight of its citizens who tested positive.

These eight Guineans are currently under mandatory quarantine.

“Our headache is that the Guinean authorities are saying they will not agree for us to return them,” the Minister said at a media briefing on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Burkina Faso has also threatened to return Ghanaians who are critically ill in their country and receiving treatment if Ghana repatriates the two Burkinabes.

The minister said Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Ministry is treading cautiously on the matter to prevent a diplomatic row.

On Tuesday, March 30, one of the foreign nationals was said to have fled the facility.

Mr. Saeed told the media that the patient, whose name has been withheld, scaled over a wall on Monday, March 30, leaving behind her belongings.
