Busunu Wura Monasa Jonokpowu II, Paramount Chief of Busunu Traditional Area in the Savannah Region has called for accelerated government investment in education, healthcare, skills training, and employment to drive inclusive development in the area.
at the end He made the call at the end of this year’s Busunu Homecoming celebration which brought together government officials, religious and traditional of authorities, opinion leaders, youth groups, and natives from the diaspora.
It was on the theme: “Thriving Together: One Community, One Shared Future”, and marked a renewed call for unity and collective action towards the socio-economic transformation of the Busunu community.
Busunu Wura Jonokpowu II described the homecoming as a historic reunion that had rekindled a development vision conceived more than three decades ago.
He highlighted the peaceful coexistence of the diverse ethnic groups at Busunu including Gonjas, Hanga, Vaglas, Sissalas, Dagabas, Chakosis, Fulbes and Gurmas and urged residents to leverage that harmony to mobilize resources for development.
On education, the Busunuwura appealed for the establishment of a Senior High School at Busunu saying land had already been secured for the project.
He expressed optimism about plans to construct a model STEM Girls Senior High School in the community following recent site inspections by consultants and appealed to government to prioritise the project among the first batch of Senior High Schools to be procured.
He proposed that the school, when completed, should be named, “Maame Nneba Girls Senior High School” in recognition of a distinguished daughter of the land.
Touching on healthcare delivery, the Paramount Chief appealed for the upgrading of the Busunu Health Centre to a polyclinic with a theatre and maternity ward to improve access to quality healthcare services.
He appealed for support to complete the Busunu Community Centre, a multi-purpose facility being constructed through internally generated resources including proceeds from charcoal royalties.
Busunu Wura Jonokpowu II called for the establishment of a Technical and Vocational Education and Training School in the area to equip the youth with employable skills and reduce rural-urban migration.
He reminded the government of land allocated for a Police Training School along the Busunu-Tamale Road and urged the government to facilitate the implementation of that project.
He appealed for employment opportunities for qualified youth in the area, especially within the security services and other public institutions.
Mr Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency, in a goodwill message, rallied the youth and other stakeholders to actively support initiatives aimed at inclusive and sustainable development.
He urged young people to embrace education, technical skills, and entrepreneurship as pathways to economic empowerment, and called on development partners and residents in the diaspora to complement government’s efforts through strategic investments in the area.
Mr Jinapor assured the community of his continued collaboration with traditional authorities and fellow legislators to advocate for policies and projects that would deliver lasting benefits to Busunu and the Savannah Region.
This year’s Busunu Homecoming celebration was marked by colourful cultural performances, solidarity messages, and fundraising activities to reinforce the community’s resolve to work together towards a shared and prosperous future.
