Mr Richard Asiedu, Central Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has given firm Assurance the government under President John Mahama was committed to resolve the current water crisis that had hit Agona East, Agona Swedru and other Districts.
According to the Chairman, the government had deployed military officers and other security forces to Akim Apapamum to halt the illegal miners from further polluting upstream of Ayensu River to bring relief to the people at Kwanyako, Agona Swedru and their environs.
Mr Asiedu gave the assurance when he addressed a durbar of Chiefs and people of Agona Kwanyako to climax the 2025 Akwambo festival at Kwanyako in the Agona East District of the Central Region.
He said Team was working tirelessly to restore the current brownish Ayensu River by the close of October 2025.
The Regional Chairman of the NDC praised Nana Dr Ampim Darko V, Agona Kwanyakohene for refusing to allow illegal miners to enter the Ayensu River.
Mr Asiedu wondered why the chiefs and family heads of Akim APapamum could not disallowed the illegal miners from entering Atiwa Forest where the source of Ayensu River was to prevent the phenomenon.
On temporary measures to ease the plight of the people, he said, nine boreholes had been earmarked in various communities at Agona Kwanyako but one had already been sunk at Agona Swedru and expressed optimism that the Ayensu would be cleaned soon.
On education, the Central regional NDC chairman said contract had been secured from the GETFUND to construct additional dormitories at Kwanyako Senior High Technical School to increase the intake of students next academic year.
Earlier, chiefs of Agona Kwanyako were carried in palanquin through the principal streets of the town, displaying the unique culture and tradition of the area to residents and visitors.
The colourful ceremony was attended by Okofo Katakyi Nyarkoh Eku X, Paramount Chief of Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, and his Divisional Chiefs, Okeseku Afari Mintah III and Omanhene of Agona Nsaba Traditional Area and his Divisional Chiefs.
Nana Dr Ampim Darko, Kyidomhene of Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area and Chief Kwanyakohene praised the two paramount Chiefs for attending the festival together
That he noted, was an indication of absolute peace and unity in Agona State.
On education, the chief said it took inhabitants of Kwanyako to use communal labour to construct the Senior High School without assistance.
He appealed to Mr Asiedu who is a native of Kwanyako to ensure that all promises given about the construction and expansion at Kwanyako Senior High School were fulfilled.
Nana Dr Ampim Darko said the 2025 Akwambo was to raise funds to commence the construction of an ultra-modern community center, which was progressing steadily after a ligation around it was resolved.
He further appealed to the government to facilitate the completion a bridge over Ayensu River which had stalled for more than 10 years to help link the town tp Awutu Bontrase and the surrounding towns.
On health, Nana Dr Apim Darko praised the residents for doing communal labour and contributing funds to construct some wards at the health center.
He appealed to the government to expand the health center to meet the demands of the growing population for quality healthcare delivery.
