The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), in consultation with key stakeholders, has appointed Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars.
Queiroz, who has previously managed Real Madrid, Manchester United, Portugal, and Iran, will now lead Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
With a wealth of World Cup experience, Queiroz guided South Africa to qualification for the 2002 tournament, led Portugal to the knockout stage in 2010, and took charge of Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.
He has also held coaching roles in Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar.
The 71-year-old is expected to bring his vast international expertise to bear as Ghana prepares for the global showpiece.
He begins work with immediate effect.
The 2026 World Cup kicks off on June 11, 2026.
Ghana will play its first group match against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, Canada, before facing England and Croatia in their remaining group fixtures.
