Ghanaian rapper Edem has added his voice to the ongoing verbal war between the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and Ghanaian celebrities.
The artiste has chastised the authority for the ban on celebrities advertising alcoholic beverages.
The FDA about five years ago, stopped celebrities from advertising or endorsing alcoholic products.
FDA stated that the restriction is an adherence to a World Health Organization (WHO) policy and efforts to ensure that minors are protected from being lured into alcoholism.
Ghanaian alcoholic company, Adonko Bitters went in for Nigerian celebrities such as Ini Edo, Jim Iyke, and a host of others as ambassadors of the product after the ban.
Reacting to the ban, Edem argued that if celebrities have the power to influence people to take alcohol, then they can influence them to drink responsibly.
“If personalities have the ability to influence people to drink. Don’t you also think they have the power to tell them to do it responsibly?” the rapper questioned on Twitter.
Earlier, the rapper had described as “pointless” the decision to ban celebrities from advertising alcoholic products.
Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Wendy Shatta, Afia Schwarzenegger and other celebrities have also spoken against the ban.
