Chairman urges PWD skills center to boost economy

By GNA

Mr Paul Baah, Agona Nyakrom Sub-District Chairman for People With Disabilities (PWDs), has called on the government and relevant agencies to establish a trades centre for physically challenged persons in the Agona West Municipality.

He said the centre would equip PWDs with vocational and technical skills such as tailoring, dressmaking, shoe mending, and sachet water production, reducing over-dependence on the District Assembly’s Common Fund.

Speaking at a PWD get-together in Agona Nyakrom, Mr Baah emphasized that many PWDs had talents that could improve their livelihoods if properly harnessed. He suggested the centre be equipped with industrial sewing, shoe mending, and water processing machines.

Mr Baah also urged PWDs to responsibly use items received from the Assembly, warning that selling or diverting them could undermine government support.

He called on the Ghana Federation of the Disabled in the municipality to develop a new strategic plan to engage all members and highlighted the high cost of disability equipment, urging government subsidies to encourage the education of children with disabilities.

He thanked companies, institutions, and individuals in Agona Swedru who contributed to the event and supported PWDs in the Nyakrom Sub-District.
