Chieftaincy disputes hindered my full potential – Nana Soglo Alloh IV

Otekple Nana Soglo Alloh IV says chieftaincy disputes over the past three decades have hindered his ability to fully realise his potential as Paramount Chief of the Likpe Traditional Area.

“Thirty-one years ago, I was installed as Otekple of the Likpe Traditional Area. However, the numerous chieftaincy disputes I encountered prevented me from working to my full potential as a chief,” he stated.

Nana Alloh made the remarks during the 2026 Lekoryi Festival held at Likpe Mate and called for reconciliation, extending an olive branch to all those aggrieved by his installation as Otekple.

“Recently, I realised there are one or two recalcitrant chiefs among us, and two other towns also have chieftaincy disputes. I urge all to come together so we can rebuild Likpe to the glory days of our forefathers—the Kajanklas, the Adja Mensahs, the Bulleys, and the Soglo Allohs,” he said.

He reminded the people of the area of their duties and commitments as Bakpele people.

Nana Alloh disclosed that in November 2016, sod was cut for the construction of the Likpe Traditional Council complex, which is intended to serve as a community meeting place.

He noted that the project had stalled due to lack of funds, adding that the current situation—where chiefs hold traditional council meetings at the Otekple’s palace—was no longer appropriate and did not befit their status.

He explained that the proposed complex would include offices and a community hall for meetings, and could also be used by the District Assembly when necessary.

He therefore appealed to all stakeholders, including the Assembly, to provide financial support to complete the project.

Madam Sophia Lelabi Lartey, speaking on behalf of Lieutenant Colonel Larry Gbevlo-Lartey, Special Envoy to the Alliance of Sahelian States and Chairman for Lekoryi 2026, urged the people not to allow town rivalry or political influences to undermine peaceful coexistence.

She called on all to play their roles in nurturing and building the next generation across the nine divisions of the area.

She also appealed for support for water projects in the area and announced that the Gbevlo-Lartey family had initiated a scholarship fund with seed money of GH¢20,000.00.
