The Chuchuliga Traditional Council in the Builsa North Municipality has enskinned Nab Akanfeme Asusongpo as Chief for the Azug-Yeri community.
The successful enskinment process, witnessed by Dr Abutu Kapori, the Registrar of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, marked a significant step in strengthening traditional leadership and governance in the area.
The Council was initially scheduled to enskin two other Sub-Chiefs for the Tiedema and the Azua-Yeri communities both within the traditional area, but due to some unresolved issues, the enskinment of the two Sub-Chiefs was postponed.
Nab Francis Akanbegme Asangalisa II, the Chief of Chuchuliga who addressed the people during the enskinment ceremony under heavy Police presence, said the process reflected the importance of unity, dialogue and respect for tradition.
He said the Council’s decision to postpone the enskinment of the other two persons was necessary to allow the affected communities the time to resolve their differences.
“The enskinment for Tiedema has been rescheduled to one week from November 20, 2025, while that of Azua-Yeri will take place in two weeks. We want everything to be done in peace and with the full consensus of the Kingmakers and family gates concerned,” Nab Asangalisa II said.
The House of Chiefs Registrar on his part, emphasised the importance of traditional authority in complementing modern governance structures, and urged the new chief to serve with integrity and dedication.
He commended the Chuchuliga Traditional Council for upholding due process and admonished residents in the affected communities to use the grace period to peacefully address their misunderstandings.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Joseph Tabiri, the Municipal Police Commander, entreated the new Chief to promote unity, support development initiatives and the fight against criminal activities in his community.
Nab Asusongpo pledged to uphold the culture and tradition of his people, promote peace, and ensure development within his jurisdiction.
