Charles Kwablan Akonnor according to reports, will become the new coach of the Ghana senior national team, Black Stars.
Mr. Akonnor, 45, has been in charge of affairs of the team in the capacity of an assistant coach, after the dismissal of Kwesi Appiah early this month.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) did not renew the contract of former coach, Kwesi Appiah, after his two and a half year contract expired.
Reports say, the government was insistent on having a local take charge of the team after Kwesi Appiah’s departure and CK Akonnor emerged the best candidate.
Former midfielder Akonnor made 41 appearances for Ghana and scored 12 goals during his time on the team.
He captained the Black Stars after the retirement of Abedi Pele and participated in four Africa Cup of Nations; 1994, 1996, 1998 and 2000.
The Ghana Football Association is expected to officially make the announcement in the coming days.
