Mr. Wisdom Seade, the Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in the Volta Region, has stated that two CHPS compounds each would be constructed in two different communities every year.
The initiative, according to the MCE, would enable every community to have quality healthcare delivery at their doorsteps to boost and improve better living.
Mr. Seade, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, during the launch of the 100 years’ celebration of the Keta Municipal Hospital, said project was to eradicate various communicable diseases and expand health education within communities.
“The directive is from President John Dramani Mahama to use 10 per cent of District Common Fund to construct CHPS compound in two different communities every year,” he said.
He explained that the move would also help alleviate the challenges residents faced in accessing healthcare delivery, and curb untimely deaths and injuries.
Mr. Seade said communities such as Seva and Tengekope would benefit from the 2025 edition of the CHPS compound initiative and preparations were underway to secure land for the project.
“Indeed, quality health is the cornerstone of every nation, and NDC government is a listening one that will always prioritise the well-being of its citizens through provision of accessible healthcare centres among others,” he said.
Mr. Seade also pledged that the government through the municipal assembly would implement plans to help Keta Municipal hospital in various ways and appealed to the public, individuals and group of companies to help upgrade and uplift the standard of healthcare delivery in the hospital.
He said government would work about the request from the public to adequately equip the hospital to a higher status and name it after the late former president Jerry John Rawlings who was a native of Keta in the Anloland to honour his legacies in promoting health in the area.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Faruk Iddrissu, the Keta Municipal Hospital Administrator, during the launch, said that the hospital faced challenges at laundry, dental unit, female ward, eye unit theatre, children ward among others which needed urgent renovation for smooth and better healthcare delivery.
The hospital further commended government for the new Infectious Diseases Centre which now serve as surgical ward and ICU, MTN Ghana Foundation for the 60-bed Maternity and Child Health Complex, which has improved maternal and child health outcome over the years.
Others include Amiki Club, a not-for-profit organisation for consistent donations of equipment and supplies every year; Duamenefa Foundation, for adopting the children’s and male wards; Mr. Mawuko Dzikunu, the Executive Chairman of Glory Oil Limited for financing support towards renovating the advanced wound care and ulcer wards.
