As part of the 69th Independence anniversary celebrations, the Convention People’s Party (CPP) marked the rebirth of the party with the planting of oil palm tree inside the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum at Nkroful in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.
The oil palm tree which was first planted by the founder of the CPP, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah at Saltpond, signified the strength of the party as the tree grew in leaps and bounds to make Ghana and Africa a force to reckon with among the comity of nations.
The rebirth, reorganisation and reconciliation agenda was inaugurated by executives of the CPP at Nkroful, the birth and original burial place of Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
Mr Moses Andy, the Chairman, National Reorganisation Committee, said the move was about the rebirth of the CPP and reminded Ghanaians to keep the memory of Dr Kwame Nkrumah and the CPP alive.
He asked Ghanaians who shared the vision, ideals and philosophy of Dr Kwame Nkrumah to write their names in the CPP register.
Mr Andy said the CPP was poised for victory in the 2028 general elections.
Mr Osei Kofi Acquah, the National Communications Director of the CPP, said the two major political parties in Ghana lacked focus and consistent plan, hence sourcing for loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) but the economy bad suffered setbacks.
He touted massive achievements under Dr Kwame Nkrumah which led to a boom in the economy with countries such as Japan, Malaysia and Guinea getting loans from Ghana.
Mr David Nii Adjei, Chairman of the UK and Ireland branch of the CPP, deplored the economic situation in the country because of badgovernance after the overthrow of Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
He said the absence of jobs which had heightened the unemployment situation in the country, has led to a surge in illegal mining activities popularly called galamsey.
Nii Adjei said the CPP has the potential to harness the country’s natural resources for an economic emancipation.
Nana Mireku Tumi, the Western Regional Chairman of the CPP, said the party had risen and would be made attractive to the grassroots to wrestle political power in the 2028 general elections.
Mr Tumi mentioned some factories established by Dr Kwame Nkrumah which were collapsed after his overthrow.
He said the CPP was ready to revamp the factories to create more employment for the jobless youth.
Nana Senza Erzah, the Abusuakpanyinli of Nkroful who spoke on behalf of Nana Kwasi Kutua,Chief of Nkroful, reminded Ghanaians of the rapid socio-economic development the nation witnessed under the CPP government.
He said the rebirth of the CPP was couched in the phrase, “Nkrumah never dies”.
