Coronavirus cases in Ghana increase to 19

Three more Coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Ghana after five were confirmed on March 20,2020.

This brings the tally to 19 cases recorded since the outbreak of the deadly disease in the country about a week ago.

Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. Patrick Aboagye, confirmed the three new cases on JoyNews.

Dr. Patrick Aboagye revealed that all three new cases recorded were imported.

Two were reported from the Greater Accra Region and one from the Ashanti Region.

A 55-year-old Ghanaian woman; resident of the UK who returned to Ghana within two weeks and an 84-year-old Ghanaian lady who is a resident of the United Kingdom but came back to Ghana within the past two weeks were diagnosed in Greater Accra.

The case from the Ashanti Region involved a 27-year-old Chinese male who returned to Ghana two weeks ago.

Five previously recorded cases on March 19, 2020 were reported from Greater Accra Region.

The breakdown of the previous five are found below:

–29-year-old Ghanaian lady; resident of Accra; no history of travel; sample confirmed positive in the laboratory

— 34-year-old Ghanaian lady resident of Accra; contact of a confirmed case at place of work; sample confirmed positive in the laboratory

— 53-year-old Ghanaian male, resident of Tema; no history of travel, no evidence of close contact with confirmed case; sample confirmed positive in the laboratory

— 41-year-old Ghanaian male; arrived in Ghana by KLM on the 15 March 2020; indicated exposure with family members in Amsterdam exhibiting respiratory symptoms and also on the flight with some passengers sneezing and coughing; sample confirmed positive in the laboratory.

— 36-year-old Ghanaian male; resident of Paris, France; date of arrival in Ghana unconfirmed; no evidence of contact with infected person;
