Coronavirus cases in Ghana rise to 21

The confirmed cases of coronavirus in Ghana have increased to 21.

This was announced by the Ghana Health Service via its website on Saturday.

One of the patients said to have had underlying health problems however died in the Ashanti Region earlier on Saturday.

“Ghana records two (2) new cases of COVID-19 with 1 death, this leaves the existing case count in the country to be 21,” the statement said.

Prior to the new development, the website reported three new cases earlier on Saturday pushing the figure to 19.

The deceased, a 61-year-old Lebanese man, reported to a health facility in Kumasi with a fever and cough earlier this month.

Deputy Health Minister Alexander Abban confirmed the death to the media.

He said the patient, who reported to a health facility with a fever and cough earlier this month, died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in the Ashanti regional capital.

He was confirmed as a carrier of the virus on March 19, 2020.

“He felt unwell and reported to a health facility with fever (temp 39.4 ℃), and cough. The sample tested positive for COVID-19,” an update by the Ghana Health Service said.
