Daddy Lumba’s final funeral rites set for December 13 in Kumasi

The final funeral rites for the late highlife legend have been officially rescheduled for December 13, 2025, according to a statement from Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. The palace originally announced a December 6 date, but during a meeting held on November 10, a new funeral committee chaired by the Dadiesoabahene was appointed to oversee preparations and the date was shifted to December 13.

At that same meeting, Daddy Lumba’s sister, Ernestina Akosua Brempomaa, requested a post-mortem examination into her brother’s death, citing suspicions of foul play. The palace confirmed the police would handle that process externally and affirmed December 13 as the fixed date, while urging family unity in the lead-up.

Earlier major rites have already taken place. A “one-week observance” in Accra was held on August 30, 2025. That served as a formal tribute ahead of the final funeral in his home region of Ashanti.

The decision to set December 13 honours both the traditional protocols of the Asante Kingdom and the need for coordination among the many family, fan-club and industry stakeholders. It gives sufficient time for national-level tributes, regional logistics and international follow-up, ensuring that Ghana’s music legend gets the dignified farewell many believe he deserves, sources say.
