Delta Air Lines has introduced Ghanaian cuisine on its Accra to John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport flights, responding to customer feedback to enhance the in-flight experience during the Christmas season.
Collaborating with local chefs and establishments in Ghana, Delta ensures the authenticity of the dishes served. Gabriel Palchik, Regional Manager of On Board Service and Menu Development, stated, “We design menus with Ghanaian influence and some western touches for our customers… We strive to offer thoughtful, elevated food and flight experiences our customers will remember forever.”
To further cater to Ghanaian passengers, flight attendants on the JFK-Accra route communicate in local languages, Twi and Ga, aligning the service with the cultural and linguistic needs of the travelers.
The menu for direct flights between JFK and Ghana includes beef, chicken, and fish options, beginning with salad, soup, an appetizer, and bread, followed by the main course, and concluding with a choice of an ice-cream sundae or cheese cubes. Coffee, tea, and alcoholic beverages, including local beers, are also available.
Passengers in ‘Delta One’ and ‘Premium’ cabins can pre-select their main entrées before the flight. This winter, ‘Delta One’ offers five entrée choices, while ‘Delta Premium Select’ provides three. Notable dishes include roasted chicken thigh with moyo sauce, braised beef with domoda sauce, and grilled grouper with vanilla sauce. Additionally, West African specialties like Thieboudienne sauce accompany certain meals, enhancing the regional culinary experience.
Delta updates its menus based on passenger feedback, particularly regarding requests for Ghanaian meals. In premium cabins, the entire menu is refreshed every six months, with minor updates quarterly, ensuring offerings remain relevant and appealing to travellers.
