A deeply symbolic traditional rite has been performed for the newly enstooled Denkyirahene, Odeefo Boa Amponsem IV, to pay homage to the Mfuom river ‘Boodiawuram’ before making his grand entry into Abankesieso, the ceremonial grounds of Dunkwa-on-Offin.
The sacred ritual, which was held on Wednesday evening formed a vital part of Denkyira’s rich culture, purification, renewal, and spiritual guidance for the new ruler.
The Denkyirahene, adorned in resplendent black cloth, was accompanied by a retinue of chiefs, elders, and traditional priests to the banks of the revered river, believed to be the spiritual protector of Denkyira.
Amid the beating of fontomfrom drums, the blowing of horns, and the chanting of appellations, libations were poured by the Akyeamehene to invoke blessings from the ancestors and the river gods for a peaceful and prosperous reign.
After the ritual, Odeefo Boa Amponsem IV symbolically shows respect to the river, a gesture representing his covenant with the spirits of Denkyira and his readiness to serve his people with humility and wisdom.
Traditional linguists and elders took turns to offer prayers, asking for divine protection, fertility of the land, and unity among the people.

The atmosphere was filled with reverence as onlookers stood in awe, watching one of Denkyira’s most sacred customs being performed with dignity and grace.
Following the homage, the Denkyirahene continued his royal procession to Abankesieso, where jubilant crowds, chiefs, and people had gathered to welcome him amid drumming, dancing, and cultural displays.
The ritual at the Mfuom River, according to elders, marks not only the physical entry of the Denkyirahene into the traditional capital but also his spiritual acceptance by the ancestral guardians of Denkyira.
As the sun set over Dunkwa-on-Offin, it was evident that a new chapter rooted in tradition, unity, and divine guidance under the reign of Odeefo Boa Amponsem IV had begun.
