Young Ghanaian disc jockey DJ Switch has responded to calls from some section of the public that she did not deserve to win the award for the best DJ of the year at the just ended 2019 Ghana DJ Awards ceremony.
The 11-year-old Erica Tandoh who rose to fame in 2017 after winning the top prize for TV3’s Talented Kidz show has had a successful year coupled with some major feats such as being recognized by ROC Nation during the black history month.
In the same year, 2019, she has performed for notable world personalities such as Bill Gates, French President Emmanuel Macron and legendary hiphop artiste Wyclef Jean.
At the just ended 2019 DJ awards ceremony, DJ Switch who was in the competition with some of the biggest names in the industry, took home the grand prize as the overall best DJ of the year.
This news was not taken very well by some DJs who called out the event organizers for being biased especially because the young DJ’s manager, DJ Mercury is part of the organizing committee.
Speaking to ZionFelix on the issue, DJ Switch mentioned that she put in a lot of hard work in the year under review as such she deserves the award she was given.
The young DJ however stated that it is true that she might not be better than those in her category but she won because of the grace of God.
“The other nominees are Senior DJs but I think I got the award because of God. I prayed and talk to my God that I want the Best DJ of the Year and my God granted me the wish,” Erica said.
She also cleared the air about the relationship between herself and DJ Mercury.
According to DJ Switch, Mercury is not her manager but rather a mentor or father figure for her and many other DJs in the industry.
