The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II, has stated that Ghana is being steered “in a straight direction” under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, despite his own personal political affiliations lying elsewhere.
The traditional leader’s remarks, made in a video that circulated widely on social media on Sunday, December 28, presented a notable endorsement of the government’s current trajectory.
“I will never support NDC… But where President Mahama is governing the country, anyone that says it is not in a straight direction is a liar,” the Dormaahene stated emphatically. He clarified that while he was once a member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and has personal reasons for not aligning with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), he felt compelled to acknowledge the government’s policy direction.
Highlighting economic indicators, the Dormaahene pointed to the relative stability of the Ghana cedi, noting the exchange rate against the US dollar stands at approximately GH¢11.49. He presented this as a signal of improved conditions in the foreign exchange market since the President took office eleven months ago.
The comments also drew attention to specific administration actions, including the recent directive from the Ministry of Finance to release GH¢1 billion to contractors who have been owed by the state since 2017. This move is part of a broader government effort to settle longstanding debts and stimulate economic activity.
The public commendation from a respected traditional ruler, who expressly distances himself from the ruling party, has sparked significant discussion in political and public circles, framing the President’s first year in office as one marked by policy actions that are drawing cross-cutting recognition.
