The Executive Director of the Africa Disability Institute (ADI), Mr Francis Bichnord Komla Asong, has been honoured with the Excellence in Disability Rights Advocacy and Inclusive Governance Award at the Fourth Edition of the Ghana Philanthropy Awards.
It was organised by the Business Executives Ghana, and held in Accra.
He was among 60 distinguished personalities recognised for their exceptional contributions to philanthropy, social transformation, and national development.
With over two decades of passionate service, Mr Asong has become a leading voice for inclusion, equity, and social justice.
His journey began in 2002, when he co-founded VOICE Ghana, a pioneering disability rights organisation that influenced national policy and empowered thousands of persons with disabilities to participate fully in society developments.
In 2022, with the strong support of his dedicated staff and an inspired Board, he led the successful transition of VOICE Ghana into the Africa Disability Institute (ADI)—now a respected continental hub for research, advocacy, and capacity building on disability inclusion and governance.
Under his leadership, ADI continues to drive innovation, policy influence, and inclusive development across Africa.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after receiving the award, Mr. Asong remarked, “Disability inclusion is not charity — it is about equity, dignity, and justice. I dedicate this award to the thousands of persons with disabilities in Ghana and across Africa who continue to inspire my work every day.”
This honour marks his eighth major career recognition, further cementing his legacy as one of Africa’s foremost champions of inclusion and social transformation.
