Top Ghanaian artiste, Shatta Wale is not happy with the organization of the ‘Year of Return’ celebration.
According to him, visibility in Ghana regarding the initiative is extremely poor.
The “Year of Return, Ghana 2019” is a major landmark spiritual and birth-right journey inviting the Global African family, home and abroad, to mark 400 years of the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in Jamestown, Virginia.
The arrival of enslaved Africans marked a sordid and sad period, when some Africans suffered years of deprivation, humiliation and torture.
While August 2019 marks 400 years since enslaved Africans arrived in the United States, “The Year of Return, Ghana 2019” celebrates the cumulative resilience of all the victims of the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade who were scattered and displaced through the world in North America, South America, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia.
In an interview monitored by JiveGh.com on Hitz FM, Shatta Wale said nothing in the country showed that the ‘Year of Return’ celebration was ongoing.
The artiste feels that Ghana’s international airport, Kotoka International Airport, should have been properly branded to reflect the celebration.
He added that commercial drivers especially those working around the airport should have been educated on the initiative and their cars branded.
Shatta Wale is of the view that the lack of education regarding the ‘Year of Return’ is a big failure on the part of government.
Meanwhile, government has hinted of extending the celebration till 2020.
