A police ofiicer and her three children died last weekend in a gas explosion that occurred in their home.

Brother-in-law to the police inspector has disclosed that the officer’s 11-year-old daughter tried to save her mother from burning and was caught in the blaze as well.

Seth Nyantakyi Baala was speaking in an interview during the one week celebration of the deceased.

He said the unfortunate incident has left the entire family traumatised, especially the only surviving member of the nuclear family, husband to the deceased.

Narrating what exactly happened, Seth said the deceased officer, Kate Hawa Kwakuru, 45, died last week Sunday when a gas cylinder at her home exploded whilst she was in the kitchen.

He said, the Inspector had retuend home from church only to realise she had ran out of gas to cook for her family, and sent someone to help fill up her cylinder.

After waiting awhile, she decided to start preparing the meal using a coal pot since the person was taking long in getting back.

After the individual returned Kate smelled some gass leak and called her 22-year-old son, Emmanuel to get the cylinder out.

However, as Emmanuel was getting this done, he used the direction in which his mom was preparing her meal with the coal pot and then the explosion happened.

Seth said; “The woman and her son got burnt instantly because gas was around them. Then Joy got fresh water and poured it on her mother who was burning thinking she could save her. In the process, the flames caught up with Joy too.

“The youngest of her children, Ebenezer who was around also run into his mother’s arms and the fire spread to him,” he narrated.

“The following day, [Monday] Kate passed away, on Wednesday, Emmanuel also died, on Friday, Ebenezer also died on Saturday and we were all praying if we could have Joy to be here. On Sunday, night [January 12], Joy passed away,” he added.
