Fidelity Bank, Ghana’s largest privately-owned indigenous bank, recently celebrated a decade of financial inclusion by honoring its outstanding agents at a dinner and awards ceremony held at Wesley Towers in Accra.
This event followed regional ceremonies in Tamale, Kumasi, and Takoradi, recognizing agents’ pivotal roles in extending banking services to unbanked and underbanked communities. Since the beginning of 2024, the bank’s agent network has facilitated over GHC 2 billion in deposits and transactions exceeding GHC 20 billion.
Kwabena Boateng, Deputy Managing Director for Wholesale Banking, highlighted the significant progress in financial inclusion over the past decade, attributing success to the dedication of agents who have brought banking services directly into homes, workplaces, and communities.
Godfred Attafuah, Director of Channels and Sales, emphasized the positive impact of agency banking on employment and income generation, noting that many agents benefit from commission-based earnings, providing jobs to countless individuals across the country. He assured that Fidelity Bank remains committed to prioritizing agents’ needs and fostering stronger collaborations for the future.
The ceremony honored exceptional agents in categories such as Best Attendant, Best Territory Agent, Outstanding Long-Service Agent, and the National Award. Brillin Top Enterprise from Nkawkaw, Eastern Region, was named Overall Best Agent for 2024, successfully defending its title from the previous year. S-Duah Enterprise from Kumasi secured second place, while Khofhay Ventures from Berekum earned third place.
Dr. David Okyere, Head of Agency Banking at Fidelity Bank, announced upcoming initiatives aimed at enhancing both agent and customer experiences. These include the introduction of a Cash Advance program for agents, optimized collections processes, alternative withdrawal service channels at agent points, and an upgraded Smart Account opening system.
Since its inception in 2014 with just 24 agents, Fidelity Bank’s Agency Banking network has expanded to over 9,000 agents nationwide, significantly contributing to financial inclusion across Ghana.
