A devastating fire has destroyed the Zabzugu market in the Northern Region, consuming large quantities of yams and other goods in the early hours of Monday, February 23.
The blaze left traders in a state of shock as their livelihoods were engulfed by the flames.
Residents rushed to contain the fire but were severely hampered by the lack of a fire station in the Zabzugu District.

With no immediate assistance from the Ghana National Fire Service, community members were forced to rely on their own limited resources to battle the inferno.

As the fire swept through the market, some traders were seen desperately attempting to salvage what they could from the wreckage.

While witnesses suggest a strong windstorm may have carried the flames into the market, the official cause of the fire is yet to be determined by authorities.
