A fire outbreak has destroyed parts of the Children’s Ward of the Saboba Assemblies of God (AG) Hospital in the Northern Region.
No casualties were recorded.
The incident, which occurred late Saturday night, triggered panic among patients, caregivers and health workers.
Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service, supported by members of the community, responded swiftly to a distress call and managed to bring the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the facility.
Dr Bukari Samuel Kando, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency.
He said the quick intervention of fire officers and volunteers averted what could have been a major disaster, considering the vulnerability of children on admission.
He said all patients in the affected ward were safely evacuated and relocated to other parts of the hospital to ensure uninterrupted care.
Dr Kando commended the Fire Service and the community for their prompt response and cooperation.
The cause of the fire is yet to be officially established, but preliminary assessments are underway to determine the extent of damage and the possible source of the outbreak.
He assured the public that measures were being implemented to ensure continuous healthcare delivery despite the incident.
