Personnel from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station have successfully contained a significant oil spill following a tanker incident on the Accra–Kumasi Highway.
The incident occurred on Sunday, May 31, involving a DAF XF tanker at the Misa Fuel Station in Ntoaso.
According to the Fire Service, the tanker was transporting shea butter oil from Tema to Techiman when its discharge valve ruptured, leading to a leakage of approximately 50 tonnes of the oil onto the roadway.

Firefighters arrived promptly at the scene and confirmed that no casualties were recorded. They applied foam concentrate to contain the spill, neutralise any fire risk, and secure the area.

Thanks to their swift intervention, traffic flow was maintained safely, further incidents were prevented, and the situation was brought under control without any injuries.

Authorities have since advised motorists to remain cautious while cleanup and recovery operations continue.
