Movie producer, Socrates Sarfo is of the view that the once vibrant movie industry in Ghana collapsed as a result of foolishness.

According to him, the downfall of the film sector can be blamed on the foolishness of the young generation of filmmakers.

Socrates Sarfo, who is also a director at the National Commission on Culture, said the youngsters refuse to heed to advice from veterans.

“Foolishness destroyed the lucrativeness of the industry. When you advise the young ones not to tow a path you know leads to destruction, they disregard it and repeat your mistakes”, he told Dr. Cann on Happy FM.

Socrates Sarfo stressed that the young generation of filmmakers are repeating mistakes made by the older generation.

He also said the new crop of filmmakers think the veterans were greedy and selfish “when we were actually interested in the survival of the industry”.

Socrates Sarfo also explained that the act of sending movies to TV stations rather than showing in cinemas further collapsed the industry.

“We have our own people being so interested in dealing with the TV stations and when you advise them, they think you’re selfish and don’t want them to progress”, he added.

He appealed to the young generation to listen to advice and stop repeating old mistakes.
