Football should restart when it’s 100% safe – Dr Prince Pambo

A member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) medical committee, Dr Prince Pambo has cautioned the Ghana Football Association (GFA) against restarting the season when it’s not safe.

Football in the country has been suspended since March due to the coronavirus outbreak. The cases keep rising and there have been calls for the suspended 2019/20 season to be cancelled.

However, GFA is bent on restating football, having tabled a proposal to the government to ease restrictions.

This is after the GFA President Kurt Okraku said there will be loss of sponsorship revenue if the football season is cancelled.

Reacting to the recent development, Dr Pambo, who previously was part of the GFA medical committee, said there should be a 100% safety guarantee before the season can restart.

“It’s more than irresponsible to start football now without a 100% safety guarantee,” he told Asempa FM

“From the word go -we have to take time and start afresh. Those who are pushing that we start football must understand that it won’t be that easy.

“I don’t know the dynamics but if there isn’t a 100 percent safety guarantee, it won’t be proper to risk anyone’s life. Some are claiming we should play behind closed-door – which is fine but a lot will go into it.

“The players, technical staff, administrators and close contact staff must all be quarantined in an air-tight environment before matches.
