French authorities say they’ve intercepted nearly four tons of cocaine at the port of Dunkirk, drugs worth an estimated $260 million on the street.
Officials say the cocaine was stashed inside a container of plastic waste that arrived from Ghana. Some of it was reportedly headed to Antwerp.
According to the report, the drugs have been destroyed, and an investigation is underway. Police had already been tracking the criminal network behind the shipment.
If convicted, those responsible face up to 10 years in prison.
The bust comes amid a broader crackdown as French customs seized more than 108 tons of narcotics last year, worth nearly $2.4 billion.
