Gender in Focus, Anesvad Foundation provide micro credit to vulnerable   

Gender in Focus Co-operative Mutual Support and Social Services Limited in partnership with Anesvad Foundation has provided micro-credit to some 300 vulnerable people in Nkroful in the Western Region.   

The 12-month integrated project, titled “GIF inclusive micro-credit for the vulnerable” would address the cyclical poverty and social exclusion faced by individuals and communities affected by Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region, Ghana. 

Madam Alberta Kwofie,  the Executive Director of Gender In Focus, said the initiative would leverage on proven model to provide affordable, collateral-free microloans coupled with entrepreneurship training, business advisory services, and NTD sensitization.  

The project, simultaneously tackling economic vulnerability and health disparities, aims to empower 300 direct beneficiaries: women, NTD-affected individuals, and their caregivers to establish sustainable livelihoods, improve their socio-economic well-being, and foster greater health resilience within their communities.  

At the project launch, Madam Kwofie said the socio-economic well-being and health resilience of marginalized communities in Ellembelle District would be improved.  

The project had a Integrated training modules covering savings, loan management, and investment strategies to ensure responsible use of funds.  

Madam Maribel Akuorkor Okine, the Western Regional Director for the Department of Gender encouraged the women to take advantage of the opportunity to realign their fortunes.   

She said urged the women to use the credit to improve their lives.  

Dr. Augustine Amoako, the District Director of Health at Ellembelle, urged the beneficiaries, especially those with NTDs, to properly adhere to medication and treatment plans to improve their health.
