Former PRO of Charterhouse, event organisers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) ceremony, George Quaye, has attempted to explain what his CEO meant by the now infamous ‘let’s rise above them’ statement she made, targeted at Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale.
Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale have both been banned indefinitely from the VGMAs after the duo caused a fracas at the 20th edition of the event last year.
At a conference held ahead of the upcoming 2020 VGMAs, the CEO of Charterhouse, was noted to have made a statement about the duo, saying:
“Can you as the media help the industry rise above these two? Let’s rise above these two and let the industry breathe and move on. Sarkodie won artiste of the decade and nobody even talked about it. The industry is bigger than these two artistes and that what I want you to go back with. There are lots of young people who need the opportunity so let’s move on.”
This statement did not go down well with both artistes and many of their fans as well and they have both come out to openly condemn it.
Shatta Wale took the organising house to the cleaners, with a lot of foul descriptions, whereas Stonebwoy took to twitter to let them know, he was disappointed!
George Quaye speaking in an interview this morning has made an attempt to clarify the situation.
He said:
“At a point, it almost became an argument at the auditorium, for almost an hour two artiste, so within that context, the woman spoke and said look, let us all come together and let us rise above them”
