GFA gives clubs money to prepare for upcoming season

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced financial packages for clubs ahead of the start of the 2019/20 football season.

The decision approved by the Executive Council will see each Premier League club receive GH¢50,000, GH¢25,000 for each Division One League club and each of Women’s Premier League club pocketing GH¢10,000.

According to the GFA, the package is an advance to the clubs to help them prepare for the upcoming season, and it will be deducted from sponsorship funds due the clubs should the GFA secure sponsorship deals for the respective leagues.

Below is a breakdown of financial packages to the clubs:

  1. 50,000 Cedis for each of the 18 Premier League club totalling 900,000 Cedis.
  2. 25,000 Cedis for each of the 48 Division One League clubs totalling 1,200,000 Cedis.
  3. 10,000 Cedis to each of the Women’s Premier League Clubs.

Also, the clubs will be supplied with footballs with 30 going to each of the Premier League clubs, 20 footballs to each Division One club and 20 footballs to each Women’s Premier League club.

The Executive Council has also approved subsidies for registration cards for the various competitions.

Premier League clubs will pay 10 cedis per card instead of 50, Division One clubs will pay 10 cedis per card instead of 25 cedis and women’s clubs will also pay 10 cedis per card instead of 25 cedis.

The GFA has also approved that registration cards will be free from next season.

Meanwhile, the GFA has confirmed dates for the commencement of competitions ahead of the upcoming football season.

The Association’s flagship competition, the Ghana Premier League is set to commence from the weekend of 27-29 December 2019. 

The Division One League is scheduled to kick off 10-12 January 2020 with the Women’s Premier League set to begin the following week. 

Regional League competitions (2nd, 3rd, Colts etc) for the various RFAs will begin on the weekend of 29th February 2020 to  1st & 2nd March 2020.

Below are the confirmed kick-off dates for the respective league competitions:

  • Ghana Premier League – weekend of 27/28/29 December 2019
  • Division One League  – weekend of 10/11/12 January, 2020
  • Women’s Premier League – 17/18/19 January, 2020
  • RFA’s Leagues (2nd, 3rd, Colts etc) – weekend of 29th February, 1 & 2 March, 2020
