The Ghana Football Association (GFA), in consultation with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, has appointed Kim Lars Björkegren to head an interim Black Stars technical team for Ghana’s crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Somalia in November.

Björkegren will be assisted by former Ghana internationals Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram, with Fatawu Dauda taking charge as goalkeeping coach.

The appointment follows a recommendation by the Black Stars Coach Search Committee after what it described as an extensive review and consultations with several qualified coaching candidates.

According to a joint statement issued by the GFA, the Sports Ministry, and the Search Committee, the interim arrangement is designed to provide continuity, experienced leadership, and strategic direction during a period of transition for the senior national team.

The statement noted that the technical team’s composition brings together the perfect blend of international experience, local knowledge, and technical expertise needed to prepare the Black Stars for the upcoming qualifiers.

Additional multidisciplinary technical and support staff are expected to be assigned to the team for the November international window.

The interim arrangement will apply specifically to the November fixtures while the Search Committee continues its work to appoint a substantive technical team.

The GFA, Sports Ministry, and Search Committee reaffirmed their commitment to providing both the Black Stars and Black Queens with the necessary technical and operational support to achieve their respective objectives.
