Ghana National Fire Service holds send-off ceremony for three retirees in Nzema-East

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has organised a send-off ceremony for three of its retired officers who had served the service for about thirty years.

The ceremony was in recognition of their long service, resilience, and dedication despite the challenges during their time in active service.

The occasion, which coincided with their annual get-together, was well attended by officers of the Ghana Police Service in the Nzema-East District Command.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Isaac Kwasi Sorkpa, the Nzema-East District Police Commander, who led the service, congratulated the retirees and the GNFS for their sense of dedication and commitment to duty over the years.

He stressed the need to strengthen the collaboration between the Ghana Police Service and GNFS in providing security to the people.

He said the Ghana Police Service acknowledged the role played by officers of the GNFS, especially at accident scenes and urged them to exhibit discipline and professionalism in 2026.

ACP Sorkpa said that at a time the government was resetting, it was incumbent upon the GNFS to render quality services to the people.

Divisional Officer (DO) II, Peter Kojo Quayson, Nzema-East Municipal Fire Service Commander, lauded the contributions of personnel in 2025, and asked them to show deeper commitment to the Service in 2026.

He said the Municipality recorded 14 fire cases in 2025, expressing worry that just within the first month of the year, they had already recorded four fire cases.

He told personnel that it was a call to action, especially during the harmattan season, to avert any possible fire outbreaks.

DO II Kenneth Arthur, outgone Second-In-Command at the Axim Fire Station, and one of the retirees, appealed to personnel to rededicate themselves to the core mandate of the Service, saying it required selflessness, commitment, zeal, and dedication to duty.

He further asked young officers to emulate their example to lift the image of the Service to a higher pedestal.

Mr Robert Taylor, Nzema-East Municipal Director, Ghana Water Limited (GWL), assured the GNFS of their readiness to provide timely services to them in times of fire outbreaks.
