The Ghana Navy has intensified efforts to enhance the shooting proficiency and operational readiness of its personnel ahead of the Ghana Armed Forces Inter-Service Shooting Competition, Exercise FIREBLAST 2026.
The move forms part of activities to prepare personnel for the annual competition, aimed at promoting excellence in marksmanship and operational effectiveness within the Armed Forces.
The effort was demonstrated through a three-day Group B Inter-Port Shooting Competition hosted by the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) at the Agorta Shooting Range in the Volta Region from September 2 to 4, 2026.
The competition brought together teams from the Eastern Naval Command (ENC), NAVTRAC and Naval Headquarters/Riverine Command (NHQ/RIVCOM), who competed in the M16 Standard, Carbine, Falling Plates and Pistol categories.
The exercise was organised to assess and improve personnel’s proficiency in the handling and use of service weapons, while identifying competent shooters for the provisional Ghana Navy Shooting Team.
It also provided an avenue for participants to sharpen their concentration, accuracy and weapon-handling skills under competitive conditions, while fostering discipline, teamwork and esprit de corps.
Commodore James Adongo Agambire, Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) NAVTRAC, said regular shooting competitions were critical to maintaining high standards of weapon proficiency, discipline and professionalism among personnel.
He urged participants to approach training and live-firing exercises with dedication and discipline to improve their operational effectiveness.
Commodore Raymond Kyaano, FOC Eastern Naval Command and Guest of Honour, commended NAVTRAC for organising the competition and encouraged participants to sustain their preparations towards Exercise FIREBLAST 2026.
He urged selected shooters to remain focused and disciplined and represent the Ghana Navy with distinction during the inter-service competition.
At the end of the competition, the Eastern Naval Command emerged the overall best team, with NAVTRAC placing second and NHQ/RIVCOM third.
In the individual categories, Commander Evans Kwame Adzakloe was adjudged Best Pistol Firer, while Sub-Lieutenant Delali Dogbe emerged Overall Best Female Firer.
Leading Seaman Ametoke Ben was adjudged Overall Best Male Firer.
The competition underscored the Ghana Navy’s commitment to strengthening personnel capabilities, operational preparedness and professional standards across its formations.
