Ghana Tourism Authority celebrates Chocolate Day with Koforidua prison inmates

The Eastern Regional Office of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has presented boxes of chocolates to inmates of the Koforidua Local Prison as part of the regional Chocolate Day celebration.

Mr. Jones Aruna Nelson, Eastern Regional Director of the GTA, said observing the Day with inmates underscored the importance of social inclusion in tourism, aligning with broader national goals to reduce inequality.

The 2026 Chocolate Month celebration was held under the theme: “Eat Chocolate, Stay Healthy, Grow Ghana” with the sub-theme: “Experience Ghana, Share the Cocoa Love.”

Mr. Nelson noted that Ghanaian cocoa is globally renowned for its quality and distinct taste, adding that locally produced chocolate offers significant health benefits.

“Choosing Ghanaian-made chocolate directly benefits local farmers, promotes the national cocoa industry, and helps retain value within the country rather than exporting only raw beans,” he said.

He explained that consuming locally made chocolate also connects people to Ghana’s rich agricultural heritage and supports the National Chocolate Month celebrations.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Commander of the Koforidua Local Prison, Deputy Superintendent of Prisons (DSP) Francis Dogbe Komla expressed gratitude to the GTA.

“This gesture shows the inmates are loved and not rejected by society. We encourage other institutions and organisations to emulate this example,” he said.
