Ghana Tourism Authority orders closure of beaches to avoid spread of COVID-19

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has ordered the closure of beaches across the country over the outbreak of Coronavirus.

In a statement released on Monday, March 23, the authority stated that it was necessary to close down beaches to avoid further spread of the virus.

Ghana Tourism Authority said the new directive was in line with the President’s ban on all social gatherings in the country.

The authority warned that operators of various beaches who fail to comply will be sanctioned.

GTA mentioned that it’s take force together with National Security and Ghana Police will have patrols to apprehend culprits.

Ghana currently has recorded 24 cases of Coronavirus since the outbreak in the country about a week ago.

So far, one patient who contracted the virus has died.

President Akufo-Addo has ordered the closure of Ghana’s borders and a compulsory 14-day quarantine for citizens who return from abroad.
