The Jasikan Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), and thousands of residents has marked the National Sanitation Day exercise in the Municipality.

Staff of the GIS, led by their sector commander, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration (ASI), Mr Bortey Edem, joined forces with officials and staff of Jasikan Municipal Assembly to clean up the town.

The exercise involved sweeping of streets, clearing of refuse dumps, and weeding of public spaces.

The joint clean up exercise was aimed at promoting a clean and healthy environment, and to sensitise residents on the importance of proper waste disposal and sanitation practices.

The GIS personnel demonstrated their commitment to community service and social responsibility, and the Jasikan Municipal Assembly expressed its gratitude for their participation.

Mr Parke-Davis Magyigbe, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Jasikan Municipal Assembly, warned residents that they would enforce bylaws to prosecute individuals who flout sanitation regulations in the area.

He made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), saying the assembly was committed to maintaining a clean and healthy environment for residents.

The MCE gave the warning during the National Sanitation Day exercise in Jasikan, emphasising that the assembly will no longer tolerate indiscriminate waste disposal and other forms of environmental pollution.

He assured residents that the assembly has the necessary machinery in place to identify and prosecute offenders, urging everyone to take responsibility for their next clean up exercise.

Assistant Superintendent of Immigration (ASI), Mr Edem Bortey, the Sector Commander of Jasikan, explained that security personnel were not immune to illnesses and diseases, which was why they joined with other stakeholders to participate in the National Sanitation Day exercise.

“Illness does not know security personnel, when there is a disease outbreak, it affects everyone, that is why we, as immigration officers joined this clean up exercise at Jasikan Municipality to ensure our environment and surroundings are clean and healthy for all,” Mr Bortey added.

He emphasised that maintaining law and order is not the only responsibility of security personnel but also contributing to keeping the nation clean.

He commended the Jasikan Municipal Assembly for organising the clean-up exercise and encouraged other stakeholders to join hands in promoting a clean and healthy environment in their respective areas.
