The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the SIC Life Insurance Limited (SIC Life) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to secure the life of future of Fire Officers.
The MoU, signed at the Ministry of the Interior, also establishes a Welfare Fund for Fire Officers, which will be funded by the total annual premium received from GNFS to support retired officers.
This initiative is expected to provide much-needed support to retired service officers and their families.
The MoU is a significant milestone in the history of the GNFS and SIC, and it is expected to strengthen the relationship between the two institutions and a testament to the government’s commitment to protecting and supporting its security personnel.
Mr Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, the Minister for the Interior, at the signing ceremony expressed gratitude to President Mahama for his support and vision for the initiative.
He commended the Chief Fire Officer, the first female to hold the position, for her outstanding work and dedication to the Service.
The Minister, highlighting the risks faced by fire officers in their line of duty,said it was thus important to provide them with insurance cover to support and encourage them to continue serving the nation with courage and dedication.
Madam Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, the Chief Fire Officer, expressed her gratitude to SIC Life Insurance for the collaboration and gave the assurance that she would do everything possible to ensure the success of the insurance scheme.
She said the insurance scheme was expected to benefit all staff of GNFS and would be preceded by engaging with staff to educate them on the scheme and its benefits.
Mr Solomon Twum Barimah, the Managing Director of SIC Life Insurance, expressed gratitude to the Minister for the initiative and noted that the insurance package would cover critical illnesses.
He assured that SIC Life Insurance would continue to enhance the package to reflect the valuable contribution of fire officers to the national agenda.
