Government of Ghana has announced that it will absorb the examination fees of final year students preparing to sit for the 2020 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
President Akufo-Addo made the announcement in his televised address to nation on June 21, 2020.
“For the first time in our nation’s history, government will absorb the WASCCE examination fees of the 313,837 students who will sit for the exams”, he said.
The president revealed that the intervention will cost government a total of GHc 75.4 million.
Final year Senior High School students return to school on June 22 since the outbreak of coronavirus in the country in March.
Gold track SHS 2 students will also return to school with the final year students.
The Ministry of Education has outlined various health protocols to help prevent the spread of the virus while the final year students stay in school.
Junior High School pupils are expected to return on June 29, 2020.
