In a move to combat arbitrary pricing and boost market transparency, the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry is introducing a national consumer price comparison app.
Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, speaking in Accra on January 21, 2026, framed the app as a modern alternative to price controls.
“We will not control prices,” she stated.
“But we will make prices available for people to choose from.”

The app will allow traders to list prices digitally, enabling consumers to compare costs across markets and shop accordingly.
The Minister argued that this transparency will create natural competitive pressure, as consumers gravitate toward cheaper options.

She cited recent price drops in basic commodities like engine oil and foodstuffs as signs of a gradual easing in living costs.
Separately, Ms. Ofosu-Agyare confirmed the enforcement of rules requiring monthly ex-factory price declarations from cement manufacturers, noting current prices are below 2024 levels.

She also disclosed that budgetary allocation has been secured from the Ministry of Finance to roll out the government’s 24-hour economy policy.
