Madam Grace Ashly, a gospel musician known for composing motivational songs for the Black Stars, has composed and presented a song in honour of the Ghana Police Service.
She officially handed over the song, titled “Ghana Police,” on Friday, January 16, 2026, and said the gesture was inspired by the sacrifices and professionalism of police personnel.
Madam Ashly recounted that she often travelled late at night because of her work and felt reassured by the visible presence of the Police.
She said Police visibility at night made her feel safe, adding that this, together with other sacrifices made by officers, motivated her to compose the song.
The song praises Police personnel for their professionalism, hard work and integrity.
Receiving the song, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), said Madam Ashly deserved more recognition for her musical contributions.
He suggested that the National Sports Authority should reward her to motivate her to compose more motivational “jama” songs to support the Black Stars.
The IGP described her as a musical icon whose songs brought peace to the hearts of many listeners.
He said when times were difficult for Ghanaians and the Black Stars, her songs had spurred them on to victory.
“If you are watching Black Stars’ games on the television and you hear her songs, you feel like getting on the field to play,” he said.
Mr Yohuno said the song had boosted the morale of Police personnel and assured Ghanaians that the relative peace they were enjoying was only the beginning.
He said his administration rewarded hard work, adding that the era where officers were promoted only after death in the line of duty was over.
Mr Yohuno stressed that once an officer merited promotion, the administration would not hesitate to act.
“We will chase criminals into their mother’s room,” he said, adding that even if an officer was on admission and a robber needed to be arrested, the officer would ask to be discharged to make the arrest and earn promotion before returning for treatment.
“The spirit is very high, let’s not disappoint Ghanaians,” he said.
