Mr Jacob Kwadwo Aleeba, the Berekum East Municipal Director of Health has advised families to allow their girls to take Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
He said the vaccine was scientifically proven to protect girls between the ages of nine and 14 years against cervical cancers and urged families to disregard some unfounded myths and misconceptions about the HPV vaccine.
Speaking at the launch of the administration of the HPV vaccine in the municipality scheduled between October 7 and October 11, 2025, Mr Aleeba said cervical cancers remained the second most common cancers in the country.
Mr Aleeba emphasized that the directorate had enough of the HPV vaccines and urged basic schools, especially private ones in the municipality to cooperate and support the directorate in vaccinating the girls.
“We humbly plead with the basic school authorities to allow our field vaccination personnel entry and to undertake the vaccination exercise and to make it successful”, Mr Aleeba urged.
