Her arrest changed everything

My wife was arrested yesterday while I was at work. I received a call that the police had gone to her workplace to pick her up. I rushed to the station and met her there with a man she described as her ex. I was shocked because I did not even know they were still in contact, let alone involved in criminal activity together.

At the police station, I learned that this ex had scammed someone of GHS 450,000, using my wife as a middleman. He operated behind the scenes while my wife communicated with the victim, posing as a woman to gain trust. The money was sent, and my wife reportedly received GHS 150,000. I had no prior knowledge of this.

When I asked her what she did with the money, she said she had spent it but could not explain how. That was when I walked away. Since then, I have been questioning the person I married.

The victim was expected to visit Ghana in December. They sold him a property they had no access to. When he arrived, he realised it was a scam and reported the matter to the police. The ex later confessed and named my wife as his accomplice. I also learned they have multiple victims.

What confuses me is why my wife would do this when she earns close to GHS 5,000 monthly, and I also give her GHS 2,500 every month. She never brought any of the money home. Instead, she claimed she was going out for errands but was allegedly meeting her ex to defraud people.

They have both been detained pending further investigations. I know this case will not be easy, but I honestly feel detached and unwilling to get involved. I feel she should face this with her family. If she makes it out and wants a divorce, so be it. The more I think about it, the angrier I become.

I had always suspected something was wrong. I just never imagined it was this serious. I hope I am handling this the right way.
