The Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Stephen Adom, has warned staff of the Ho Municipal Assembly against persistent lateness and indiscipline, cautioning that habitual offenders risk dismissal or transfer if they continue reporting late to work.
Speaking at the third meeting of the Ninth General Assembly in Ho, Mr. Adom expressed concern over what he described as a growing culture of lateness and laxity among some workers.
He said despite being in office for only seven months, he had observed that many employees report to duty between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. and close as early as 3:00 p.m., a trend he described as unacceptable for effective public service delivery.
“I am always the first to arrive at the office, yet many of my subordinates report long after 9 a.m. This attitude must stop immediately because I will not hesitate to take disciplinary action,” he warned.
The MCE urged Assembly Members to advise their relatives and acquaintances working at the Assembly to change their attitude towards work before sanctions are enforced.
“Those of you whose family members or friends work here should warn them. When I start taking action, no one should blame me,” he stated.
Mr. Adom stressed that lateness and absenteeism undermined productivity and tarnished the image of the Assembly, which was mandated to deliver efficient services to residents.
He disclosed that new measures were being implemented to monitor attendance and punctuality, adding that departmental heads would be held accountable for the conduct of their subordinates.
He hinted that disciplinary actions could range from queries and transfers to outright dismissals, depending on the frequency and gravity of the offence.
“We cannot deliver results to our people if we ourselves are not disciplined. I want everyone to take their work seriously so that together we can make Ho a model municipality,” he said.
Some Assembly Members commended the MCE for his decisive leadership and called for fair and transparent enforcement of attendance rules. Others appealed for improved staff motivation and logistics to complement the disciplinary measures, noting that effective service delivery required both commitment and adequate support from leadership.
The Assembly also reviewed ongoing development projects, proposed new ones, and discussed strategies to improve internally generated funds (IGF) and overall service delivery in the municipality.
