The Ho Municipal Assembly has announced Friday, November 7, 2025, as a Municipal Clean-Up Day as part of efforts to promote cleanliness and support the National Sanitation Day initiative launched by President John Dramani Mahama.
The directive, contained in a notice signed by Mr Henry Yao Amesimeku, Municipal Coordinating Director, aligns with the Assembly’s commitment to the Oxygen City Concept, a vision aimed at sustaining a clean, green, and healthy environment for residents and visitors.
The exercise will run from 0600 hours to 1000 hours, during which all shops and commercial centres are expected to remain closed.
Only limited services would be allowed to operate, including Pharmacies/Drug and Chemical Shops; Fuel Filling Stations; Koko Sellers; Institutions or individuals on special and emergency duties
The directive asked that all public and private institutions, corporate organisations, and community members to mandatorily participate, especially by cleaning their immediate surroundings and public spaces.
It listed key clean-up activities to include sweeping and removal of refuse in public areas; desilting of drains, proper disposal of waste; weeding, trimming of overgrown vegetation, tree planting, and beautification efforts
Where no designated community meeting point is announced, the directive entreated households to observe the “Operation Clean Your Frontage/Backyard” directive within their residences or neighbourhood clusters.
The exercise according to the directive would be supervised by the Volta Regional Minister, Municipal Chief Executive, chiefs, security agencies, and other dignitaries to ensure full compliance. Offenders will be sanctioned according to the law.
The Assembly has therefore called on traditional authorities, religious bodies, civil society organisations, educational institutions, corporate entities, media organisations, and all households to mobilise and participate fully.
“Let us work together to keep Ho Clean, Green, and Glorious,” the directive urged.
