Ho Muslims urge reopening of Central Mosque during Eid

Muslims in Ho have renewed calls for the reopening of the Central Mosque while marking Eid with prayers and messages of unity.

The appeal follows the continued closure of the Ho Central Mosque after a violent shooting incident linked to disputes over Imamship, which left about ten persons injured.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency after Eid-ul-Fitr prayers held at the Nuriya Islamic School Park at Ho New Zongo to mark the end of the 30-day Ramadan fast, some members of the Muslim community, led by Mr Saladu Mohammad Ejah, Youth Leader of the Ho Zongo Community, described the shutdown as a major setback to their religious activities.

He urged government and relevant stakeholders to take urgent steps to restore calm and reopen the mosque to enable normal worship.

“We are appealing to authorities to intensify efforts to restore peace so that the mosque can be reopened for us to pray together,” a worshipper said.

Despite the situation, hundreds of Muslims gathered at the Ho Zongo Park and the Police Depot in Ho to observe Eid prayers, marking the end of the fasting period.

The prayers, led by the Imam, focused on seeking Allah’s blessings for peace, unity, and stability in the country, while urging the faithful to uphold discipline, patience, and generosity.

Worshippers expressed gratitude for successfully completing the Ramadan fast, describing the period as one of spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and renewed commitment to righteous living.

Some celebrants told the GNA that Eid symbolised a new beginning, with many sharing goodwill messages, exchanging greetings such as “Barka da Sallah,” and extending charity to the poor and needy.

They noted that beyond its religious significance, the celebration also reflected a blend of Islamic and Ghanaian culture, promoting unity, tolerance, and togetherness among diverse communities.
