Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Tourism Authority, Akwasi Agyemang, has directed pubs or drinking bars in lockdown areas not to operate.
This instruction comes on the back of President Akufo-Addo’s declaration of a lockdown in Grater Accra and Greater Kumasi.
The president however stated that operators within the food chain were exempted from the lockdown.
Giving clarity to the president’s directive, Akwasi Agyemang said pubs in affected areas should be shut.
“All drinking bars, night clubs, pubs etc within the specified areas must remain closed during the period”, he said at a press conference on March 29.
The Ghana Tourism Authority boss said all hotels and restaurants can operate during the 14 days of the lockdown.
“Their restaurants, gyms and other facilities will service only the resident guests, subject to the specified enhanced hygiene protocols and social distancing,” he added.
Staff of hotels will be provided special passes by National Security, which must be worn in addition to their normal IDs.
Akwasi Agyemang said food chains and restaurants must operate only pick-up and delivery services.
