Hundreds attend 2025 Somètutuza health walk at Agbozume 

Hundreds of citizens of Somè Traditional Area in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region, have participated in this year’s edition of the Somètutuza health walk, held in collaboration with World Tourism Day. 

The event which brought participants from home and abroad including aged, political and traditional rulers of the Traditional Area was also to foster unity of the area. 

The walk was also aimed to foster culture, tourism, peace, and unity among ‘Somèawo’ and the entire Ketu South and Volta region to set the stage for this year’s Somètutuza celebrations slated for Saturday, September 27. 

Participants took a walk from Agbozume to Nogokpo through Klikor and back to Agbozume, with songs of harmony, showcasing community spirit and togetherness which also served as a platform for leaders to advocate peace and unity. 

Mr. Daniel Jerry Sorokpo, Publicity Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, expressed excitement about the peaceful and health promoting walk which demonstrated the unity of the area. 

“As we approach the 49th edition of Somètutuza, preaching peace and unity is crucial. This walk has paved the way for a harmonious celebration,” he said. 

He urged participants to embrace regular physical activities to promote healthy lifestyles and promote discipline within the communities to underscore the festival’s dual focus on wellness and unity. 

Mr. Nicholas Kwabla Worclachie, Ketu South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) who took part in the exercise advised the public to maintain decorum during the festival, urging citizens to prioritise sanitation, before, during and after the festival, to safeguard health, living and safety of the communities. 

“World Tourism Day, observed annually on September 27, promotes tourism, social, cultural, political, and economic value globally, it aligns with Somètutuza’s themes of unity and cultural showcase.” 

He said celebrating Somètutuza together with the World Tourism Day highlighted the rich culture of the area and the country which would further promote tourism potential to invite global appreciation and exchange. 

With peace, unity, and cultural pride at its core, the Somètutuza festival, coupled with World Tourism Day, promised to be memorable celebration to reflect on the vibrant culture heritage of Ketu South. 

The theme of this year’s Tourism Day and the development is,” Rethinking Tourism, focusing on re-imagining tourism’s development and sustainability aspects.”
