President Akufo-Addo has finally broken his silence on the ongoing bloody EndSARS protests.
Scores of Ghanaians on social media had demanded that the Ghanaian president, who is also the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), comments on the matter.
On Wednesday, October 21, Akufo-Addo took to his Twitter page to condemn the violence in Nigeria.
“I join all well-meaning persons in calling for calm, and the use of dialogue in resolving the #EndSARS impasse in Nigeria. I have spoken with President Buhari, who is committed to this end, and has begun the processes that will lead to reform”
“Violence, be it on the part of the Police or protesters, cannot be the solution. To the families who have lost their loved ones, I express my sincere condolences, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery. #EndSARS”
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has also called on the security agencies in Nigeria to act professionally in its handling of the protestors of the #ENDSARS Movement.
A protest for police and governance reforms in Nigeria led by the youth turned bloody on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, when security operatives allegedly opened fire on a group of demonstrators.
This has led to many people calling on ECOWAS to swiftly act on the matter to curtail the further loss of lives and destruction of properties.
